SERMON NOTES
PART 1
If my learning is not leading action, I’m not learning. Our faith is going to grow, become stronger, more single-minded and determined to stand in a firmer way. We believe, as you read these notes, God’s Word is working in and through you.
Definition of Unwavering Faith
To move one way and then another way. Unsettled in my faith. Questioning God. Undetermined, to fluctuate and to doubt. To have unwavering faith is to have quite confidence that responds to challenges with immediate obedience.
- No fight, no struggle, our faith will never grow
- How to keep from bouncing back and forth like a yoyo
- The more consistent we are we will become stronger
- When I waver, my faith will not work and is not efficient
- What I believe, trumps what I'm feeling
- We are to manage our feelings
- Unwavering faith isn’t being led by our feelings
- Our feelings are fickle
James 1:1-6 (TLB) 1 From: James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. To: Jewish Christians scattered everywhere. Greetings! 2 Dear brothers, is your life full of difficulties and temptations? Then be happy, 3 for when the way is rough, your patience has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, and don’t try to squirm out of your problems. For when your patience is finally in full bloom, then you will be ready for anything, strong in character, full and complete. 5 If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him; he will not resent it. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to tell you, for a doubtful mind will be as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind;
- My character is being developed
- My character helps me stay where my talent has brought me
- When we respond correctly, we will grow up
- Ask God for wisdom!
- Don’t throw away what you do know when facing a situation you don’t know what to do
- Questioning God leads to wavering
- Stand firm on the Word
- Expect an answer from God when you ask for wisdom
James 1:1-6 (TPT) Greetings! My name is Jacob, and I’m a love-slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m writing to all the twelve tribes of Israel who have been sown as seeds among the nations. 2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! 3 For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up in you the power of endurance. 4 And then as your endurance grows even stronger, it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking 5 And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it! He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace. 6 Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next.
- Because we fail, we are not failures
- Our response should be to be happy
- Never doubt God
PART 2
We all struggle from time to time believing for something or someone. When we waver our faith will not work. Pastor Blunt explains the truths we need to remember to help us rejoice in our challenges, and that in our rejoicing it brings growth and growth carries us out of our storm. We believe, as you read these notes, God’s Word is working in and through you.

- My words have a lot to do with my wavering or unwavering faith

PART 4
Our faith is not a feeling or emotion, but rather it is an act. It is a choice. In order for our faith to work, we need to put it into practice by daily living out God's Word with obedience. We believe, as you read these notes, God’s Word is working in and through you.
James 1:1-8 (KJV) 1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. 2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. 8 A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.
- Our attitude when we face adversity is big
- Before we ask for wisdom from God, we must have an attitude of joy
- The trying of our faith produces patience
- Patience is holding steady under pressure and staying consistent
- God is working on our ability to not quit, consistent under pressure
- Faith isn’t a feeling. We can’t be dominated by our feelings
- Faith is an act a choice
- The wind is a metaphor for our circumstances and feelings
Romans 4:17-22 (KJV) 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. 18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
- When things get tough, focus on God’s promises
- Remind yourself of God’s promises
- Have a relationship with God’s Word
- When we focus on our body and our feelings, we will always have weak faith
- Focusing on God’s Word and who He says He is, will produce strong faith
- God isn’t looking for perfection he is looking for growth
- Strong faith gives glory to God
